Tame A Course That Demands Accuracy Over Distance
Located in a rather “high and hilly” part of the Cikeas river valley, the Old Course is situated in an impressive former jungle-setting that more than typifies the natural beauty of the vast archipelago that is called Indonesia. The first three holes will have you descent some 200 meters into the valley from which the Old Course came to be.
Opened for play of the first 9 holes in 1979, the Old Course is the Jewel in the Crown of golf at the Jagorawi Golf & Country Club (JG&CC), the country’s pioneering “new era” golf club. The total length of 6,023 meters seems to be “short” by all standards in golf, but it’s not to be underestimated. It surely belies its true challenge.
“Hitting it long” on this course is less important than accuracy, precise club selection and smart course management. And truly, they are essential ingredients to taming this “risk and reward”, but often unforgiving layout.
The 509 meter long par 5 opening hole surely must rank as one of the finest and most spectacular opening holes in Indonesia. Wayward tee shots on this handicap-stroke 1 hole are usually punished severely. So, stay cool.
Navigating this hole in par is a major feat, and will set the tone for the overall respect one should exhibit playing the golf course that is considered to be “the Dame” in all of golf in Indonesia.
Do not pass up an opportunity to play this “legendary” golf course. Bring extra balls, and enjoy it!
